With the help from the Karen T. Romer Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award (UTRA), I helped with the development of the curriculum and syllabi for “Artists and Scientists as Partners” & “ASaP: Theory Into Practice,” during which I performed in-depth literature reviews and meta-analysis on current research looking at the intersection & interactions between dance, the visual arts, and their effects on people with Parkinson’s Disease and Autism Spectrum Disorders. I was then responsible for creating the website asap-brown.org for the organization. Related Institutional Experiences:

Research Assistant, Laura Aguilar Trust, 2020 - Current

A key figure in the Chicanx and queer art scenes of Los Angeles, Laura Aguilar has effectively shaped how people perceive identity today—even if, when she started making photographs, during the 1970s, she wasn’t widely known. With her images focused on her identities as a large-bodied, working-class queer Chicana woman, she considered pressing subjects, like mental health and equity in the art world, that are only today being given their due. Working closely and being mentored by the Laura Aguilar Trust, I am working on Laura Aguilar’s Archive as a Research Assistant.

Co-Founder of Medical Humanities Society, Warren Alpert Medical School, 2017 - 2018

Led multiple workshops with students over arts education in medical settings and the values of visual recognition and acuity. Organized events and lectures related to interdisciplinary approaches to medicine. The Medical Humanities Society aims to traverse a range of patient experiences as expressed through creative work, and give medical students the opportunity to apply their medical knowledge through an artistic lens. It works with the surrounding medical and artistic communities to organize workshops, lectures, and panels that will serve as conduits for the intersection of medicine, art, ethics, and literature.

Helped create school’s first-ever medical student blog MURMUR (alpertmurmur.org), a platform which showcases the creative output of students across disciplines such as research, advocacy initiatives, narrative essays, final elective projects, artwork, and other mediums of student expression. Served as Lead Design and Layout Editor. MURMUR is run 100% for students and by students.
